The US Consulate Principal Officer Brain Heath on Monday donated and inaugurated an American Legal Discovery Centre (ALDC) at the Lahore High Court Bar Association Library. The LHCBA President Ahmad Awais and other members of the legal community were present on the occasion. The US Embassy in Pakistan has launched the ALDC project to equip seven law libraries in Pakistan with access to the latest in legal information and to provide an opportunity for the legal community, scholars and researchers to broaden their knowledge of the US legal system, says a press release of the US embassy.

The ALDC is a dollars 4,000 package consisting of a Dell Pentium III computer, CD-ROM and American legal software; reference books on law, HP laser printer, an uninterrupted power supply unit (UPS) etc.

"The United States has a longstanding commitment to spreading the ideals and values of American democracy and civil society to foreign audiences, and to engage and maintain an open dialogue with people throughout the world.

The centre is a step towards providing information about legal systems", stated the news release.

The Public Affair Section of the US Consulate will also organise a software-training workshop for professional legal researchers.
